1. Low surface tension
The cohesive energy density of polysiloxane is low, the intermolecular forces are small, and the molecules are in a high compliant state, resulting in low surface tension. Due to the significantly lower solubility parameters of siloxanes compared to other compounds and materials, coupled with low surface tension, silicone resins exhibit significant incompatibility, i.e. they are not easily mixed with other substances, thus exhibiting excellent anti stickiness.
2. Thermal stability
The heat resistance of silicone resin is much better than that of ordinary organic resins. It can be used for a long time at 200-250 ℃ without decomposition or discoloration, and can withstand 300 ℃ in a short period of time. If combined with heat-resistant pigments and fillers, silicone resin coatings can withstand higher temperatures. Organic silicon can not only withstand high temperatures, but also low temperatures, and its chemical and physical properties vary little with temperature.
3. Weathering resistance
There are two reasons why silicone resin has good weather resistance: firstly, the Si-O bonds in silicone resin are very stable, making it difficult to generate free radical reactions caused by ultraviolet radiation, and also less prone to oxidation reactions; Secondly, silicone resin is not sensitive to sunlight. Methylsiloxane hardly absorbs ultraviolet rays, so the influence of sunlight on silicone resin is relatively small, which is the main reason for the excellent weather resistance of silicone resin coatings.
4. Water resistance
In the molecular structure of silicone resin, organic groups such as methyl are arranged outward and do not contain polar groups, resulting in low water absorption and excellent hydrophobicity.
5. Electrical insulation
Silicone resin can maintain good electrical insulation performance over a wide range of temperatures and frequencies. Due to its high heat resistance, the electrical properties of silicone resin decrease very little at high temperatures, and the high-frequency characteristics also vary very little with frequency.
6. Breathability
Silicone containing polymers have weak intermolecular forces and large free space, resulting in high breathability. The O2 transmittance of silicon containing polymers is quite high. It can prevent liquid water from passing through, but gaseous water can pass smoothly. Adding some organosilicon compounds to acrylic resin coatings can improve the breathability of the coating film.
